TINA TURNER – PROGRESSION TECHNIQUE

Our Queen of Rock Music, Tina Turner, bid farewell to this world on May 24, 2023, but we sent her off on a luminous journey to join the stars.

Her life journey clearly shows that she was a true warrior, as if she could have been an Amazon woman.

Let’s explore her life path using the triplicity rulers technique...The progression techniques involving triplicity rulers are valuable teachings passed down to us from Dorotheus of Sidon. We owe thanks to the trio of Roberts (Hand, Zoller, Schmidt) for preserving and bringing these techniques into modern times.

In the table above, you can see the row for the zodiac signs and the columns for the planets under each sign. The usage of this table is as follows: for example, if Jupiter is in Cancer in your chart, we would look at the Cancer column in the table. The three planets in this column, in order, are Venus, Mars, and Jupiter.

The sequence is determined by the sections labeled Day, Night, and Participating ruler in each row. If the chart you’re analyzing is a day chart (the Sun is above the horizon), you would use the rulers for Cancer as Venus, Mars, and the Moon, in that order. If it’s a night chart (the Sun is below the horizon), the sequence shifts, starting with the night ruler. So, for Cancer, it would be Mars, Venus, and then the Moon.

Now, what does it mean for your Cancer Jupiter to be ruled by these three planets?

We apply this concept by dividing a person’s life into three phases and attributing them to these three planets. For instance, for a lifespan of 90 years, we divide it into three periods of 30 years each and attribute these phases to the rulers of Jupiter.

Alternatively, we can identify prominent indicators using almuten calculations and assess planetary dignity. In this article, however, we will focus on the three stages of life.

The origin of this knowledge is rooted in the concept of the elements. As you’ll notice in the table, signs belonging to the same element share the same triplicity rulers. For example, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are fire signs, and their rulers are the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn.

This knowledge comes from Dorotheus of Sidon’s Carmen Astrologicum. However, Ptolemy, Lilly, and Al-Biruni also contributed by adding their own rulership tables based on their work. For this discussion, we will use Dorotheus as the oldest source.

Many years ago, I attended a seminar by the esteemed astrologer Sharon Knight, who is now a treasured lecturer at our academy. Her seminar at the time focused on life path indicators through triplicity rulers, with remarkable examples.

Dear Knight is one of the last strongholds of traditional astrology practitioners today. As such, she excels at deciphering ancient sources. In our discussions, I noticed that Hellenistic astrologers often used luminaries when applying triplicity rulers.

While you can apply triplicity rulers to almost any indicator or degree, when it comes to life paths, the focus should be on the luminaries. Additionally, astrologers like Zoller have emphasized the use of Arabic Parts, as you may observe (details in: A Lost Key Prediction - Robert Zoller).

By identifying the triplicity rulers of your Part of Fortune and analyzing these planets' placements in your chart, you can gain incredible insights into when and how luck and prosperity will flow in your life.

In this article, we will use the luminaries – the Sun and the Moon – to explore life paths. If the chart we’re examining is a day chart, we will analyze the Sun and its triplicity rulers. For a night chart, we will focus on the Moon.

THE QUESTION OF HOW LONG I WILL LIVE

The most significant challenge here is determining the length of a person’s life. The ancients estimated life expectancy as roughly 75 years, a figure that may have been reasonable for their time, and they divided these years into three phases of 25 years each. For today’s time, we could use 90 years as an estimate and divide life into three 30-year phases. Of course, this is just an assumption. Predicting the actual lifespan is uncertain. The ancients dedicated much effort to this, particularly through Hyleg and Alcocoden calculations to determine life expectancy from the outset. After all, if you make predictions about someone’s chart and then they die, the entire analysis would be rendered moot.

Thus, they developed life expectancy calculations. I admit, I also test triplicity rulers on animals. I conduct these studies on cats and dogs with known birth data, observing their average lifespans.

However, setting aside the challenge of lifespan prediction, if we examine the life of someone who has passed, triplicity rulers can offer even sharper insights. We don’t necessarily have to assign a 75- or 90-year lifespan. For example, if someone passed away at 30, we can divide their life into three parts and allocate 10 years to each triplicity ruler.

For these reasons, I decided to examine Tina Turner’s life using this method. Tina, whose path now shines with light, serves as our example!

Tina was born at night, so we will focus on the Moon. The Moon is in Gemini, an air sign. The triplicity rulers of the air signs are Mercury, Saturn, and Jupiter in that order (starting with the night ruler first).

If we divide her 83-84 year life (1939-2023) into three phases, we relate each phase to one of these ruling planets, approximately 28 years per phase.

  • The first 28 years of her life were under the rulership of Mercury.

  • The second phase, from age 28 to 56, was ruled by Saturn.

  • The final phase, from age 56 to 84, was governed by Jupiter.

The early years of her life fall under the rulership of Mercury.Mercury is associated with skill and talent, and in Tina’s chart, it rules the 5th house, which is linked to performance and creativity. When she had her first vocal performance in 1956, she was 16, and her profection year was aligned with the 5th house. It was at this time that she met Ike Turner (her former husband). Venus is also present in this house (the universal indicator of marriage).

Mercury is both retrograde and located in Sagittarius (its detriment), and it is combust (burnt by the Sun). This reflects that her marriage and these early years were not happy. In fact, we see a Martian marriage in her transit chart during her wedding (November 26, 1962). Transit Jupiter is conjunct her natal Mars at 4° Pisces in the 7th house, and transit Mars at 19° Leo is on her Ascendant. The Nodes are aligned with Pluto and Saturn, and her profection year began with the 12th house (losses)... This describes her violent marriage.

The second phase of her life is ruled by Saturn.Saturn is retrograde in Aries (its fall) and conjunct the South Node. This placement also brought challenges to her life. Her career was stagnant until she changed record labels. Her divorce occurred during this period, and she shone on stage, becoming widely recognized with her significant projects and albums. Despite her painful life, the approaching Venus-Saturn trine brought her fame. In Hellenistic texts, Venus rejoices in the 5th house, representing performance, art, and joyful projects, which became hallmarks of this period.

Venus at 24° Sagittarius is in mutual reception with Saturn, and Venus' applying aspect to Saturn solidifies this interpretation. Saturn in the 9th house speaks to the dedication and effort she put into the show business industry.

Her final phase of life was ruled by Jupiter.

Jupiter is in Pisces and resides in the 8th house, bringing health challenges. This house represents surgeries, and Venus, the ruler of kidneys, is exalted in Pisces. We see her experiencing multiple kidney failures and a kidney transplant (as 8th house events). Jupiter squares Venus in her natal chart.

During the kidney transplant, Venus was at 28° Pisces, conjunct her natal Jupiter. Venus signifies the kidneys, while the 8th house represents surgeries.

Around this same period, Tina renounced her American citizenship and became a Swiss citizen, which also reflects Jupiter in Pisces. Pisces is associated with retreat, seclusion, and cross-border changes.

Her second marriage also occurred during this period. The 9th house of her second marriage is ruled by Mars, which in transit was at 23° Gemini, moving toward a square with her natal Jupiter. Additionally, she was 73 years old, a profection year related to the 2nd house, and Jupiter was placed in the 7th house (the house of marriage) in her solar return.

She was also deeply affected by the deaths of her sons. Jupiter, ruling the 8th house, is tied to the 5th house of children. The 5th house's 4th house (children's death) comes into play here. When her son Ronnie passed away from colon cancer, Tina was experiencing a Jupiter return. In her children’s house, Venus at 28° Sagittarius was squaring her natal Jupiter at 28° Pisces.

All these connections show that throughout her life, Tina was a fighter. Her legacy is not just the performances, shows, and music she left behind but also her resilience, her relationships, and her ability to endure life’s trials, providing a beacon of light for us all.

May your path be filled with light, Tina!
