After beginning an analysis on the missing Titan submarine, which was diving to the Titanic wreck, news broke today that the wreckage of the missing submarine has been found. This tragic incident, involving the tour company OceanGate, had devastating outcomes not only for its employees and officials but also for the families of the five passengers aboard.
Examining this process from an astrological perspective will be a fruitful study for astrologers who are interested in horary (questions), electional (timing), and katarchic astrology, as well as those focused on mundane (world) astrology through event charts.
When working with missing person or object charts, we often use the moment of last contact, the last known sighting, radio communication, or, if no other information is available, the time the first news report breaks. Even with this approach, we can gather quite satisfactory results.
For the time of disappearance, our coordinates are 41°43′32″ North latitude and 49°56′49″ West longitude, located in the North Atlantic Ocean. The exact time for the last communication was sourced from The Guardian. You can observe the timeline data in the visual.

The chart we constructed is based on the last communication between OceanGate’s surface team and the submarine.
In event charts, the first house represents what is happening and the exact nature of the event. Since there is no planet placed in the 1st house, we must analyze the nature of Virgo, the rising sign. Virgo naturally represents preparation stages. When we match the Zodiac circle with the houses starting from Aries, the next sign after Virgo is Libra, which rises above the horizon. The sign before Libra is Virgo, symbolizing what lies beneath the surface.
The ruler of Virgo is Mercury, and in the chart, Mercury is placed in the 10th house. Lilly, in his approach to travel charts, emphasizes the importance of angular houses. He states that the 1st house signifies the start of the journey, while the 10th house represents the location during the travel. Similarly, the 7th house marks the destination, and the 4th house represents the return.
With this knowledge, while the 1st house signifies the vessel (the submarine), the Moon represents the passengers. Compiling all this information, we interpret as follows:
The Ascendant ruler Mercury is in the 10th house, indicating that the submarine was still en route during the event. It does not indicate the vessel had reached its destination at the Titanic wreck or was returning. The journey had begun, but the destination had not been reached... This detail is crucial in understanding the sequence of events because the submarine was likely crushed due to pressure during its descent. With communication cut off, this also provides clues as to where the vessel may be located.
Mercury describes the vessel, and its placement in Gemini further supports this interpretation. Mercury signifies the assembly of various components, functionality, smallness, and movement. The submarine was designed to hold exactly five people, very small and compact, stripped of unnecessary weight to facilitate deeper dives. Gemini, in turn, rules short-distance travel, fitting with the submarine's descent after departing from the main ship—there's a clear connection here. However, unlike its fellow sign Virgo, Gemini does not exhibit the same cautious or careful behavior.
Interestingly, the submarine was controlled by a joystick, essentially a game console. Mercury in Gemini perfectly symbolizes this. For example, Virgo would typically represent taking precautions against potential dangers. Most submarines have safety mechanisms like an emergency buoy that signals their location if they sink, but this particular vessel lacked even basic controls. Instead, it relied on a game console. The nature of Gemini, driven by curiosity and experimentation, focuses more on action rather than preplanning. Therefore, we can directly link the vessel to Mercury in Gemini.
Additionally, in mythology, Gemini has connections to the underworld. While it represents an air sign, stories of descending into the underworld and rising from it are embedded in its nature.
In Babylonian astronomy, the stars Castor and Pollux were known as the Great Twins. They were seen as minor gods, referred to as Meshlamtaea and Lugalirra, meaning ‘The One Who Rises from the Underworld’ and ‘The Mighty King,’ respectively. These titles were understood as titles of Nergal, Babylon’s chief plague god and ruler of the Underworld. (Source: Babylonian Star-lore, Gavin White, Solaria Pubs, 2008, p. 125)
In Greek mythology, Castor and Pollux were mythologically linked to St. Elmo’s fire and known as the protectors of sailors. (Source: Ridpath and Tirion 2017, pp. 150–152)
Medically, Gemini rules the lungs and breathing. Mercury represents man-made machines designed to provide limited-time respiration, which symbolically ties to the submarine’s systems.
The Moon represents movement, travel, direction, passengers, or customers. This chart captures the moment of the last communication. Reflecting on the Moon's previous placement, we can see that the passengers were on a dangerous path. Before entering Cancer, the Moon was in Gemini, which makes it peregrine—without essential dignity. Symbolically, the fact that the event attracted sensational media coverage relates to the wealth of the passengers. Each ticket for the journey cost $250,000.
We can see this through the mutual reception between the Moon and Jupiter. The Moon holds exalted dignity in Taurus, where Jupiter is placed, and Jupiter rules Cancer, where the Moon resides. This suggests the involvement of wealth, as Jupiter represents affluence. However, exaltation rulership often brings excessive and uncontrolled circumstances, symbolizing overextension. These passengers had chosen an exclusive, luxurious trip to view the Titanic wreck, a journey beyond what most people would undertake financially.
This also elevated the event’s media impact (Jupiter in the 9th house, representing media). In contrast, news of another recent incident involving a sinking boat carrying 750 refugees, with many lives lost at sea, didn’t receive the same attention...
According to Lilly, the placement of the luminaries (the Sun and Moon) above the horizon in missing person or object charts suggests the possibility of discovery. Unfortunately, this placement alone was not enough in this case. The Moon had just entered Cancer, and its connection to Mars in Egyptian bounds is a troubling indicator. Mars rules the 8th house of danger. Moreover, the Sun is the ruler of the 12th house (Leo), which signifies the unknown and hidden matters, and it is also the exalted ruler of the 8th house (Aries).
Additionally, the Sun was moving toward an aspect with Neptune, the planet of mysteries and unknowns.
With these symbols established, let’s expand our interpretations to understand how the event unfolded.
We can consider the Sun to represent the authorities. In many missing person charts I’ve examined, the Sun’s placement and aspects provide clues about the location or direction of the missing person or object. Sadly, the Sun’s square aspect to Neptune indicates that the authorities were not equipped to handle the search and rescue operation. The Sun's Egyptian bound ruler is Saturn, which is in a more challenging state. Saturn is in Pisces and is stationary. Saturn in Pisces represents international waters quite clearly.
Saturn governs boundaries, control, and authority, but its placement in Pisces creates confusion about who holds command. This is exactly what we observe in this chart, as the submarine was lost in international waters. Yet, the focus remains on this issue of authority because stationary planets draw attention to their topics. Saturn’s stationary state suggests the authorities were fixated on search and rescue efforts, grappling with how to handle the situation.
While the authorities struggled with this issue, we should also evaluate the condition of the passengers by analyzing the aspects of Mercury and the Moon. The Moon will soon form a trine aspect with Saturn. Mercury has completed its square with Saturn and carried its light to Venus, and is now heading toward Mars.
These planetary positions further emphasize the importance of Saturn. In horary astrology, the 6th house is examined for indicators of illness or damage to a ship. Saturn’s placement here points to a significant issue with the vessel’s main components. Since the submarine was underwater, the 6th house Saturn placement symbolizes a life-threatening malfunction.
In horary astrology, the Moon’s aspects neither worsen nor improve the situation. The trine to Saturn does not indicate relief but rather reflects the inevitable course of events. It shows how long the malfunction may last or what the situation is. The key indicator, however, is Mercury’s completed square to Saturn, which tells us that communication was lost due to the damage sustained by the vessel.
This situation had already occurred by the time the last communication was received. Unfortunately, Mercury had transferred the light from Saturn to Venus. Venus symbolizes sound and pressure, and the combination of Saturn and Venus explains the catastrophic failure caused by pressure. Mercury had completed these steps and was now moving toward Mars, the ruler of the 8th house of death, signaling a fatal rupture and fragmentation.
In other words, when communication was cut off, the rupture had already occurred, and now the fragments of the submarine are drifting away...
Additionally, Venus and Mars are placed in the 12th house, which represents the unseen, the unknown, international waters, and distant locations. These placements paint a tragic picture.
Regarding the passengers’ fate, it is not simply a matter of planetary dignity. While Mercury in Gemini and the Moon in Cancer may seem positive, when we consider the entire chart, we encounter several challenging indicators that complicate the situation...
As for the timeline of finding the wreckage, we turn to the Sun, symbolizing the authorities. When the Sun enters the Moon’s sign, it suggests the authorities will find the passengers or the vessel. Three days later, we received the news that the wreckage had been found.
CARTOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
The story becomes even more intriguing when we analyze the event cartographically.

At the exact coordinates of the sinking, we observe that the midpoint of Pluto and Chiron is aligned with the Midheaven line. This is quite distressing because cartographically, Chiron lines are associated with a sense of not belonging. In essence, as living beings who belong on land, humans do not belong beneath the water. And, tragically, Chiron is in the 8th house, and Mars is the ruler of the 8th house. Pluto’s presence here also solidifies this event as a catastrophe. Moreover, Pluto symbolizes wealth, and the midpoint of the Moon and Jupiter aligns perfectly with the Midheaven, clearly representing the wealthy passengers.
Even more strikingly, we find dangerous lines from the eclipse chart running through the exact coordinates...

Let’s examine the solar eclipse that occurred on April 20, 2023, as it relates to this event. When we analyze the map, we can see that the dangerous Mars and Uranus lines, representing sudden and unexpected events, intersect exactly over these coordinates.
ARABIC PARTS ANALYSIS
I frequently use Arabic Parts in event charts, as they offer detailed insights into specific events. Instead of distinguishing between benefic and malefic aspects, I prefer to examine the placement and rulership of these parts, which often provides sharper clarity.

Part of Travel (Pars Peregrinationis):
Both: ASC + 9th House Cusp – 9th House Ruler
Part of Travel by Sea (Pars Itineris in Aqua):
Day: ASC + 15° Cancer – Saturn
Night: ASC + Saturn – 15° Cancer
As an experimental astrologer, I’ve observed the accuracy of these parts in charts of successful/unsuccessful rocket launches and plane crashes. In addition, I also consider the Part of Danger when examining accidents or disasters.
In this chart, the Part of Travel is at 21°, positioned very close to Uranus. Uranus, representing sudden and unexpected outcomes, is highly significant here, as Arabic Parts rely on precise calculations. Since the Ascendant changes roughly every 4 minutes, and the Arabic Parts are calculated based on the Ascendant’s degree, this alignment is an important finding.
The Part of Travel by Sea is placed at 16°, forming a 150° quincunx with Mars at 16°. Quincunxes often indicate unexpected events, accidents, and death. This part is also in the same sign as Pluto. We’ve already discussed Saturn’s condition above, as well as the square aspect between the Part of Danger and Pluto, along with its placement in the same sign as Chiron, in the 8th house (associated with danger and crises).
In event charts, the 4th house is examined for matters related to death and endings. Here, Sagittarius is on the cusp, so we look to its ruler, Jupiter, for more insight. Jupiter is moving into an aspect with stationary Saturn. The 1st house signifies life and breath, while the opposite 7th house signifies the giving of life, its end, and the 4th house of death. Here, we should consider Pisces ruled by Jupiter, along with Saturn, which is conjunct the Descendant. Neptune’s presence in the same sign and house describes death by drowning in deep waters.
CONNECTION TO THE TITANIC
The name "Titan" is derived from Saturn’s moon. Symbolically and mythologically, Saturn is closely related to water. The sign it rules, Capricorn, is depicted as Pan, a creature with the head of a goat and the tail of a fish in mythology. Saturn’s other sign, Aquarius, is also associated with water waves. However, there are meanings that stand in direct contrast to these associations. For example, in Greek mythology, the Titans were a generation of gods that preceded the Olympians.
As we know, the Titans were children of Uranus and Gaia, but one of these children was Cronos—Saturn, the planet we observe in astrology. The story involves Saturn castrating Uranus, establishing the boundaries of the cosmos, and ruling it with his fellow Titans, until Rhea and the Olympians overthrew them... For a detailed explanation of the Titanomachy and Zeus's rise to power, see Early Greek Myth, Timothy Gantz, pp. 44–56.
Clearly, if a ship is to be built, it should not be named Titan, Titanic, or any variation thereof... Names related to the Titan family, such as Oceanus, might be more fitting, but based on the astrological symbolism connected to Saturn and Cronos, we know that Saturn does not forgive even the smallest negligence. Especially on a day when Saturn is retrograde and stationary, an underwater descent like this, defying celestial laws, was far from being forgiven.
I also examined the connection between the event chart and the Titanic. When we overlay the two charts, we can see how they interact. OceanGate's original mission was not to explore the Titanic, but as a commercial strategy, they repurposed their vessel for expeditions to the wreck. In fact, news surfaced that the passengers aboard were descendants of a couple who had perished on the Titanic. With all of this in mind, we must compare the chart for Titanic’s maiden voyage with our event chart.
The Titanic's departure chart comes from renowned astrologer Lois Rodden’s collection. The chart has an A rating, and when we analyze it, we find fascinating connections.

There are striking parallels... It’s as if we are witnessing another tragic event that brings the Titanic back to life. Chiron is directly at the Midheaven, and in our event chart, Venus and Mars from the 12th house are placed in the 1st house of the Titanic’s chart. Neptune, representing the sea, is at 27°, exactly on top of the Titanic's Venus. This suggests that the Titanic will gain more value and be revived through another narrative (Neptune).
Similarly, Pluto, which symbolizes deep waters, death, and transformation, is at 29°, conjunct the Moon. On the other side, Titanic’s Pluto is at 27°, conjunct the event chart’s Sun, highlighting an exact degree match. Additionally, the Moon at 01°26′ is approximately 2° from the Titanic’s Mars. Clearly, all of these positions indicate that the painful memories of the Titanic will once again resurface from their hidden depths...
INGRESS ANALYSIS
Finally, when we examine the Ingress chart, an indispensable technique of mundane astrology, the connections become even clearer. For this analysis, we use the Sun’s ingress into Aries at 0° to create the chart for the year. We set the coordinates based on the location we want to focus on.

Even if we don’t have precise coordinates or accurate timestamps from the news, we must remember that planetary placements and degrees won’t change. In the Ingress chart, Mars is clearly placed at 27° Gemini. This tells us that we should pay close attention to the 27° placement throughout the year. Mars dominates the entire Aries stellium in the chart, and its square aspect to Neptune clearly warns: be cautious around the seas!
As if this cautionary signal wasn’t enough, the descent took place on the day when the Sun had just reached 27° Gemini, the exact degree of Mars in the Ingress chart for the year... When we adjust the coordinates for the event location and create the Ingress chart, we find that the Sun is exactly aligned with the Midheaven, and Neptune’s square is precisely on the Descendant line.
This reinforces the importance of considering celestial positions. First, we must remember that as humans, we hold the power of free will in the face of risks. Then, we must remind ourselves to align our actions with the heavens when faced with possibilities...
