We have received news of a major ship collision with the historic Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. According to data shared by news websites (1), the exact time of impact was March 26, 2024, at 1:28:49 AM, and the coordinates were 39°N17’25’’ 076°W36’45’’ Baltimore, MD.

At the time of the incident, Sagittarius was rising. Its ruling planet, Jupiter, was conjunct Uranus, a planet known for sudden events, destruction, and accidents. A quincunx aspect of 150 degrees is formed between Jupiter and the Moon, both positioned at 16°. The 150° aspect, often referred to as an "accident angle," is further emphasized by the Uranus quincunx to the Ascendant at 20°.

The exaltation ruler of Sagittarius is the South Node. Exaltation rulers are nearly as significant as domicile rulers, and in events like this, they can be even more prominent. The South Node is in a powerful angular house (10th house), where its influence is 100%. In classical astrology, the South Node represents losses.

Compared to the North Node, the South Node gives the impression of being more centered on the Earth, pulling us down, causing a fall, and reflecting an uncontrollable force. Unfortunately, in this case, its conjunction with the Moon (representing people and the public) indicates a life-threatening danger. It symbolizes a helpless plunge, akin to drowning. The Moon also signifies transport, travel, and logistics (it rejoices in the 3rd house).

Similarly, the North Node is located in the 4th house, which, in mundane astrology, represents “death.” While the 8th house is traditionally associated with the road to death and survival struggles, the 4th house speaks more of endings, drownings, and annihilations.

As you know, the Nodes are not planets; we can't gauge their influence as we do with planets. However, these sensitive points are formed by the alignment of two important luminaries: our Sun and Earth's faithful satellite, the Moon. Due to the 5° orbital difference between these two, from Earth’s perspective, we observe the Nodes as two notches to the north and south. Because the Nodes are formed by the Sun (our focus) and the Moon (our direction), they gain importance in guiding us on our paths.

At Deneysel Astroloji Akademi, in my Mundane Astrology courses, I describe the Nodes to my students as navigational systems. In mundane astrology event charts, the Nodes frequently signal navigational errors, route deviations, satellite malfunctions, and other such issues. It seems clear that this heavily loaded cargo ship, without proper guidance or navigation, caused this tragic disaster.

The Moon, being the natural ruler of the 8th house (the house of dangers), plays a significant role. Its quincunx to the Ascendant ruler Jupiter, its conjunction with the South Node, and its status as the 8th house ruler summarize the tragedy indicated by this chart. There is a stellium (a grouping of planets) in the water sign Pisces, located in the 3rd house of travel. Mars, having just entered the stellium at 2°, also rules the 4th house (death), the 11th house (the 8th house of the 4th, symbolizing catastrophic death), and the 12th house (threats). This scenario foretells serious issues with trade routes related to water or customs.

According to Marc Edmund Jones' chart modeling, this is an Aquarius-type chart with the Moon as the handle. Moreover, all planets except the Moon are positioned below the horizon, suggesting hidden, submerged, or unnoticed events in such charts. It reflects the helplessness of the public (Moon) and the slow response of authorities.

The Moon's antiscia with the Saturn-Venus conjunction and their mutual reception through exaltation further emphasize the gravity of the situation. This suggests that the already dire event may worsen, leading to further complications.

Saturn’s position points to economic blockages in trade routes (as the ruler of the 2nd house). It also suggests the inability to reach the bodies of the victims. According to the news (2), underwater drones were deployed by authorities, but large amounts of twisted metal and debris from the collapsed bridge have made it unsafe for divers to enter. This is precisely reflected by the challenging mutual reception and antiscia between the Moon and the Pisces stellium, symbolizing that greater efforts are needed under harsher conditions.

ADDITIONAL INDICATORS

ree

In the chart, the midpoint of Mars/Uranus squares the midpoint of Sun/Moon at 11°. Mars and Uranus represent sudden destruction and accidents, while the Sun/Moon midpoint symbolizes the focus of both the rulers and the public. The square aspect between these midpoints illustrates the unpreparedness for the disaster and the struggle for an urgent response.

The Danger Point (Arabic Part) is located at 27° Virgo, opposite Neptune at 27° Pisces. Neptune, being associated with Poseidon, represents the seas and waters. As a generational planet, it emphasizes the global scale of the catastrophe.

The Water Travel Point, located at 17° Leo in the 8th house, is indicative of dangers. Its ruler, the Sun, is conjunct the IC (Imum Coeli, representing the lowest point in the chart) within a 4° orb.

ree

]Cartographically, Uranus lines running through Baltimore are clearly visible. Uranus, symbolizing sudden disasters, makes a 30° aspect with the DSC and a novile aspect with the IC. The novile (a 9th harmonic aspect) reflects fateful themes, and Uranus on the IC represents the difficulty of coping with the aftermath (destruction, represented by Uranus, and consequences, represented by the IC). The 30° aspect to the DSC (which symbolizes the two sides the bridge connects) indicates the urgent attention required for intervention.

THE BRIDGE'S INAUGURATION

ree

According to reports, the historic Francis Scott Key Bridge was inaugurated on March 23, 1977, at 10:00 AM. (3) When we compare the chart of the bridge’s inauguration with the accident chart, many significant correlations emerge.

ree

The bridge’s inauguration chart has Gemini rising, and Neptune makes an opposition to the Ascendant degree. At the time of the accident, the Ascendant was exactly on Neptune. Additionally, in both charts, Mars is positioned within 2° of Pisces. In the accident chart, Mercury at 24° Aries sits directly on the South Node of the inauguration chart.

ree

Furthermore, by applying the Solar Return technique to the bridge's inauguration date, we can analyze what lies ahead for the bridge this year. As mentioned in the introduction, the importance of the Lunar Nodes stands out once again. In the Solar Return chart, the Nodes are placed directly on the Ascendant/Descendant axis.

The entire Pisces stellium can be considered to occupy the 6th house, meaning the bridge is in need of maintenance this year! The 6th house represents daily routines and maintenance, yet the Uranus-Jupiter conjunction in the 8th house is a clear indicator of danger. Pluto’s position in the 4th house suggests that the bridge will "rise from the ashes," likely to be rebuilt after destruction.

ree

When we analyze the charts using midpoints, more details come to light. It seems that from its very inauguration, the bridge was in a problematic position. On the day of its opening, Venus was retrograde in Aries. Additionally, the midpoint of the Sun/Moon was exactly at 24°, conjunct the South Node.

Indeed, the inauguration chart reflects the reasons for the bridge's construction and the purposes it was intended to serve. For example, the trine between Mercury (Gemini's ruler) and Saturn (in the 3rd house of roads and travel) sums this up. Mercury represents trade and logistics, while Saturn in the 3rd house further emphasizes roads and travel. Saturn here also signifies heavy vehicles and transportation. However, Saturn’s retrograde motion and its uncomfortable position in Leo indicate that the bridge would undergo strict inspections and face many challenges. Saturn's square to Uranus by 11° also hints at these difficulties.

Clearly, this bridge, from the beginning, may have been problematic, particularly due to its adoption as the preferred route for trucks transporting hazardous materials, which are prohibited in tunnels and ports in the region. In 1980, another cargo ship struck the Key Bridge, but safety measures in place at the time prevented any damage. (4)

The important lesson here is this: as I always say, "Planets do not have free will, but we do." Through preventive measures, caution, routine maintenance, and observation, we can approach events with awareness rather than fatalistically assuming that "this was meant to happen."
