My article “The Astrological Chart of a Prison” was published in C*I*A Time Lords Magazine on 16 August 2026.
In this study, I explore the Marmara Penitentiary Institutions Campus in Silivri, Istanbul through the astrological chart of the moment when the institution became operational. Rather than treating astrology exclusively as a tool for individual birth charts, the article approaches an institution itself as something that enters time, develops a structure, and carries its own symbolic dynamics.
The analysis begins with the institution’s operational chart for 6 June 2008 at 14:30 in Istanbul, a time based on the first large-scale transfer process from Bayrampaşa Prison. In my approach to institutional astrology, I generally prefer the moment when a system begins to perform its actual function rather than a ceremonial opening date.
The study examines themes such as justice, law, confinement, authority, institutional control and collective memory through the chart’s planetary structure. Particular attention is given to the Libra Ascendant, the Gemini emphasis, the Moon in Cancer, Saturn in the 12th house, Pluto as the leading planet, and the relationship between the prison chart and the national chart of Türkiye.
A major part of the article also brings Local Space astrology into the analysis. By projecting planetary directions onto the physical layout of the prison campus, I examine how astrological symbolism may correspond with different spatial zones, buildings and functional areas. The purpose is not to claim an exact architectural or legal correspondence, but to explore how symbolic planetary directions may interact with physical space.
Among the most striking examples is the Pluto Local Space line passing through the main entrance gate, which I interpret symbolically through themes of irreversible transition, transformation and change of status. The study also examines the Uranus line in relation to isolation, and other planetary lines in connection with different institutional zones.
The article should not be read as a legal judgment or scientific expert report. It is an astrological, cultural and spatial interpretation based entirely on publicly accessible information and open-source material, with the aim of exploring how institutions and places may also carry symbolic signatures in time and space.
